Cole Tanner rushed for two touchdowns, and Westbrook put itself in contention for the No. 1 seed in Class B South by earning a 20-0 win over previously undefeated Kennebunk on Saturday in Westbrook.

Both teams are now 5-1. Kennebunk, the two-time defending regional champion, was tied for fourth place in the latest Varsity Maine Top 10.

A bad snap by Kennebunk from punt formation set up Westbrook’s first touchdown late in the first quarter. The Blue Blazes took over at the Kennebunk 31, and Tanner capped the short drive with a 4-yard run. Tanner’s extra-point attempt was blocked.

Westbrook made it 13-0 in the second quarter when Gio Staples launched a deep pass to Dimitri Lubin for a 32-yard touchdown.

Tanner added a 34-yard TD run in the third quarter.

SCARBOROUGH 15, GORHAM 8: Jayden Nji scored on a 6-yard run in overtime, and Logan Pearson picked off a pass to end the game as the Red Storm (3-3) rallied past the Rams (1-5) in Scarborough.

Gorham took the lead in the second quarter led until Logan O’Keefe threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Kingston Griffiths with 5:15 remaining in regulation. Pearson caught a pass from Oscar Goss for the tying conversion.

Gorham’s touchdown came one play after a bad punt snap gave the Rams possession at the Scarborough 3. Quarterback Garrett Poulin kept it himself for the touchdown and also ran for the conversion.

MEDOMAK VALLEY 40, YORK 14: Jaydiin Ruiz scored five touchdowns as the Panthers (3-3) beat the Wildcats (1-5) in Waldoboro.

CHEVERUS 35, BIDDEFORD 13: Colton Jewett broke free for a 96-yard touchdown run on the first play after Cheverus forced a fumble deep in its own territory, helping the Stags (4-2) pull away from the Tigers (1-5) in Portland.

Jewett’s long run gave Cheverus a 28-13 lead in the third quarter.

Kelly O’Guinn scored both Biddeford touchdowns, including an 80-yard reception from Ernest Dore IV. O’Guinn finished with 166 yards rushing and receiving, and Dore was 12 of 17 passing for 249 yards.

FIELD HOCKEY

MT. ARARAT 2, FREEPORT 1: Stella McBrady scored seven minutes into the second overtime to lift the Eagles (8-2-1) over the Falcons (9-2) at Freeport.

Kameron Chase also scored for Mt. Ararat (8-2-1), and Jaymie Bergman made 12 saves.

Liza Flower scored for Freeport, which is ranked sixth in the Varsity Maine Top 10. The Falcons got five saves from Maddie Kryzee.

CHEVERUS 5, FALMOUTH 1: Brooke Brunelle recorded a goal and two assists to lift the Stags (11-0-1) past the Navigators (8-4) in Portland.

Gracey Cooper, Joey Pompeo, Mary McCartney and Ava Martin also scored for Cheverus. Jaylee Radford had an assist and Ellie Skolnekovich made 10 saves.

Siobhan Nielsen scored for Falmouth, assisted by Lily Young. Navigators goalie Avary Davis stopped 12 shots.

MT. BLUE 3, CONY 0: Grace Allen scored and added two assists for the Cougars (10-2) in a victory over the Rams (6-6) in Farmington.

Kali Judkins and Lily Huntley each had a goal and an assist.

Gwen Lesperance earned the shutout by making five saves, while Cony’s Courtney Ramage stopped 13 shots.

POLAND 3, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 2: Rihanna St.Pierre scored twice, including the winning goal, as the Knights (5-6) beat the Falcons (3-8) in Poland.

Abby Coughlin also scored for Poland.

Emma Williamson and Layla Boutte each netted a goal for Mountain Valley. Morgan Robin and Melina Byam recorded assists.

LEWISTON 2, CAMDEN HILLS 0: Shelby Vallee made 11 saves for the Blue Devils (8-2-1) to earn a shutout against the Windjammers (4-7) in Rockport.

Lauren Cote and Charlotte Crowley were the goal scorers. Haydin Hughes and Madeline Andrews each had an assist.

Maddie Fuller stopped three shots for Camden Hills.

HALL-DALE 3, WINSLOW 1: Freshman Clare Sturtevant’s two goals paced the Bulldogs (5-4-3) past the Black Raiders (8-3-1) in Farmingdale.

Robin Asch also scored for Hall-Dale. Adele Amsden picked up two assists and Lexi Tinkham had one.

Blanca Sanchez Aviles got Winslow on the board.

Hall-Dale keeper Genevieve Ciccarelli stopped 11 shots. Isabella Loubier made eight saves for Winslow.

SANFORD 2, MARSHWOOD 0: Avary Dilallo and Bella McCall scored as the Spartans (6-3) beat the Hawks (3-5-2) in Sanford.

Kailyn Stuart and Ava Hudson each had an assist.

THORNTON ACADEMY 3, NOBLE 1: Olivia Martin, Addi Harris and Malia Collins scored to lift the Trojans (6-4) over the Knights (4-5-2) in Saco.

Kaylee Pellerin had an assist and Olivia Frederickson made eight saves for Thornton.

Riley Goodwin scored for Noble.

TRAIP ACADEMY 3, OAK HILL 0: Jacqueline Diallo scored twice to lift the Rangers (8-3) past the Raiders (1-9-2) in Wales.

Marlee Mickle got the other goal.

PORTLAND 2, MASSABESIC 1: Mari Mas set up the tying goal by Maizie Chalmers in the second half, then scored with 45 seconds remaining in the second overtime to give the Bulldogs (2-7-1) a win over the Mustangs (1-8-1) in Waterboro.

The game was scoreless at halftime. Siena Carbone put Massabesic in front when he scored off a direct kick.

Sophie Knoll assisted on the winning goal.

MORSE 1, LEAVITT 0: Delia Murray collected a cross from Zoe Nicholson after a throw-in by Georgia Sarbanis and scored with 1:40 remaining in the first overtime as the Shipbuilders (7-2-2) defeated the Hornets (4-5-2) in Turner.

YARMOUTH 1, MT. ARARAT 0: Fiona John scored 6:43 into the game to give the Clippers (9-2) a win over the Eagles (8-3) in Topsham.

Brooklyn Hayes had an assist and Julia Soelberg stopped four shots for Yarmouth.

Mt. Ararat’s Morgan Crawford made seven saves.

MT. BLUE 4, BREWER 2: Nate Zeliger potted two goals and recorded an assist for the Cougars (8-3) in a victory over the Witches (2-8-1) at Farmington.

Lincoln Tierney contributed a goal and an assist, and Stevie Davis also scored for Mt. Blue. Carlos Padin and Wiktor Dziekenawoski each assisted on a goal.

Cosmo Masterson and Nick Godfrey scored for Brewer.

Mt. Blue keeper Kooper Keller stopped two shots. Brewer’s Eli Ouellette made 13 saves.
