Marco Ruiz kicked a 24-yard field goal in the second overtime to give Bates a 26-23 win over Amherst in a NESCAC football opener on Saturday in Lewiston.

Bates rallied from a 23-7 third-quarter deficit to force overtime when Quinn Carver caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Jack Perry with 1:52 left and Ruiz made the point-after attempt. Ruiz also kicked a 27-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

Perry completed 7 of 14 passes for 110 yards and three touchdowns for Bates. Jeff Vidou and Jake Walters also had touchdown receptions.

UNE 41, WPI 3: The Nor’easters (2-0) scored 28 points in the fourth quarter to pull away and beat the Engineers (0-2) in Biddeford.

Chris Lang completed 28 of 41 passes for 327 yards and two touchdowns for the Nor’easters. He ran 29 yards for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter, then completed a 48-yard scoring pass to Will McLoughlin. Steve Rosario added an 8-yard TD run in the fourth and Austin Ingersoll scored on a 76-yard run.

Ingersoll finished with 11 yards rushing, while John Germano caught 11 passes for 109 yards for UNE.

COLBY 13, TRINITY 6: Antone Moreis scored on a 2-yard run with 4:55 left and Christopher Milmoe intercepted a pass with 1:54 left to lift the Mules past the Bantams in the NESCAC season opener for both teams in Waterville.

Trinity took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter on a 20-yard pass from Jaxon Caroll to Nolan O’Brien. Colby tied it when Montrail Holmes returned an interception 8-yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Drew Ramos also had an interception and Jack Mullen had two sacks for Colby.

TUFTS 13, BOWDOIN 0: Vaughn Seelicke kicked two field goals and the Jumbos beat the Polar Bears in the NESCAC opener for both teams in Brunswick.

Chartellis Reec also scored on a 7-yard run for Tufts.

Bowdoin managed just 175 yards of offense. Quarterback Michael Wolfendale threw for 101 yards.

SPRINGFIELD 38, HUSSON 6: The Pride (1-1) rushed for 435 yards and cruised to a win over the Eagles (1-1) in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Stanford Davis had 17 carries for 121 yards and a touchdown for Springfield. Quarterback TJ Welch ran for 113 yards and two touchdown, and also threw a touchdown pass.

Husson quarterback Max Clark completed 16 of 21 passes for 108 yards.
