Caitlin Rooney’s second goal of the game broke a 2-2 tie with 12 minutes remaining, and Wells broke through Thursday for its first girls soccer victory of the season, prevailing 3-2 at York.
Rooney connected with a long shot for the only goal of the first half. Caitlin Shiels added a second-half goal.
Wells is now 1-3.
Two freshmen, Ella Mello and Sommer Morrison, scored for York (0-3), which twice erased one-goal deficits.
LEAVITT 2, POLAND 1: Led by goals from Carina Castagna late in the first half and Sophia Poulin early in the second half, the Hornets (1-2) edged the Knights (3-1) in Turner.
Lorelai Simard and Reese Bilodeau were each credited with an assist and Leavitt keeper Hailey Welch made 10 saves.
Alivia Lemieux broke up Welch’s shutout bid with 10 minutes remaining. Payton Blake stopped 11 shots for Poland.
YARMOUTH 2, GREELY 1: Fiona John scored both goals for the Clippers (2-1) in a win over the Rangers (1-1) at Yarmouth.
John’s goals were set up by Lilah Pernal and Giselle Jabar.
Greely’s goal was from Sami Santerre, assisted by Amelia Savoy.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH 5, SACOPEE VALLEY 0: Lexi Sweeney tallied three goals, Corinne Androkitis and Vivienne Provencher also scored, and the Seagulls (1-1) handled the Hawks (0-2) in Hiram.
BOYS SOCCER
WESTBROOK 6, SANFORD 0: Ryan Garber and Mo Ahmed each scored twice as the Blue Blazes (1-1) defeated the Spartans (0-2-1) in Westbrook.
Ithiel Mulumba added a goal and an assist, Hussam Ibrahim also scored, and Mustafa Saker had two assists. Sam Luanika and Isaac Crabtree shared goaltending duties for Westbrook, combining for 10 saves.
PINE TREE ACADEMY 5, ISLESBORO 0: Miguel Matos put in two goals, Samuel Batista added a goal and an assist, and the Breakers (3-0) defeated the Eagles in Islesboro.
SCARBOROUGH 4, KENNEBUNK 1: Trevor Atwood started a second-half outburst with two goals in a span of four minutes, propelling the Red Storm (3-0) to a win over the Rams (1-2) in Kennebunk.
Atwood’s first goal broke a scoreless deadlock eight minutes into the second half. Brady Moreau and Finn Coburn also scored, and Connor Casey had two assists.
Kennebunk’s Grahame Bean scored the game’s final goal.
GORHAM 8, MASSABESIC 0: Moises Ntango scored three goals and Griffin Gava had two as the Rams (3-0) rolled to a win over the Mustangs (0-3) in Gorham.
Will Andreasen contributed a goal and an assist, while Cohen Landry and Brandon Levesque each added a goal.
FIELD HOCKEY
NOBLE 2, GORHAM 1: Mia Smith and Leah Randall scored and Lauren Merchant made 10 saves as the Knights (3-0) turned back the Rams (1-2) in North Berwick.
Smith put Noble ahead in the first quarter, and Randall made it 2-0 in the third.
Annabelle Collier scored for Gorham in the fourth quarter.
MT. ARARAT 3, YORK 0: Kamryn Chase, Emma Graffam and Maddy Sweet each netted a goal and the Eagles (2-0-1) shut out the Wildcats (1-1-1) in Topsham.
Chase opened the scoring, assisted by Abbie Tidwell, then set up Graffam’s goal.
CHEVERUS 4, SANFORD 1: Ava Martin led the Stags (1-0-1) with a pair of goals in a win over the Spartans (2-1) at Portland.
Joey Pompeo and Mary McCartney were the other Cheverus goal scorers. McCartney also had an assist, as did Brooke Brunelle and Sydney Brunelle.
Reese Beaudoin scored for Sanford.
WINDHAM 4, MASSABESIC 1: Lexie Beach produced a hat trick to lead the Eagles (2-1) over the Mustangs (0-2) in Waterboro.
Mirabelle Kri contributed a goal and an assist.
MARSHWOOD 7, PORTLAND/DEERING 0: Marlo Elwell recorded a hat trick as the Hawks (1-2) rolled past Portland/Deering (0-3) in South Berwick.
Hazel Stout, Isabel Rothwell, Nora Dockham and Mya Dulac added a goal apiece. Stout also had assisted on Elwell’s three goals.
BIDDEFORD 3, THORNTON ACADEMY 2: Corinne Ramunno’s goal 23 seconds into overtime gave the Tigers (2-0-1) a win over the Golden Trojans (1-2) in Saco.
Ramunno also set up a goal by Mia Mariello. Cordelia Kane also scored for Biddeford.
Cora Bolduc got both Thornton goals.
CAPE ELIZABETH 7, MORSE 0: Wylee Stoecklein scored four goals as the Capers (2-1) defeated the Shipbuilders (1-1) in Cape Elizabeth.
Olive Blouin contributed a goal and an assist, and Audrey Higgins and Abby Proctor also scored.
VOLLEYBALL
EDWARD LITTLE 3, BRUNSWICK 0: The Red Eddies (3-0) continued their unbeaten start, beating the host Dragons (0-3) by scores of 25-11, 25-13 and 25-2.
Edward Little was led by Elizabeth Galway, Maija Bolduc and Sarah Ebersole at the serve line. In the third set, Bolduc had a 12-point serving streak and Galway had an eight-point streak.
MARSHWOOD 3, BONNY EAGLE 1: Nellie Young had 21 kills and five blocks to lift the Hawks (1-2) past the Scots (2-1) in Standish.
Marshwood dropped the first set, 25-23, before winning the next three, 25-20, 25-20 and 25-19.
Brynn Folger added 32 assists, while Kylie Folger had 15 digs for Marshwood.
THORNTON ACADEMY 3, FALMOUTH 1: Marta Semino and Ryleigh Light combined for 20 kills, Brooklyn Derochers had 17 digs, and the Trojans (2-0) downed the Navigators (2-1) in four sets, 25-15, 22-25, 25-22, 25-15, in Falmouth.
Olive Clark had 14 kills and two aces for Falmouth. Megan Gilbert recorded four kills, and Lyla Gagnon and Embury Williams (three blocks) each finished with three.
