Abby Roberts scored the go-ahead goal on a breakaway, and Scarborough won a rematch of last year’s Class A South final, beating host Windham 2-1 in a girls soccer match Wednesday.
All three goals came in the first half. Windham’s Mackenzie Delewski struck first, assisted by Emily Wardwell. Maya Casey got the tying goal, with an assist from Paige Garlock.
Vera DiSotto finished with 10 saves for Scarborough (2-0), the No. 2 team in the Varsity Maine poll. Seventh-ranked Windham, playing its season opener, used two keepers: Libby Hartwell stopped five shots and Jenny Schwarz had nine saves.
THORNTON ACADEMY 2, SOUTH PORTLAND 1: Malia Collins put in a rebound midway through the second half for her second goal of the game, and the Golden Trojans (2-0) edged the Red Riots (0-2) in South Portland.
The hosts grabbed an early lead on a goal by Sasha Neff 10 minutes into the game, assisted by Charlie Savage. Collins tied it five minutes later.
Thornton keeper Olivia Frederickson stopped five shots, while South Portland’s Maizie Savage made 11 saves.
SANFORD 3, PORTLAND 2: Annie Stimmell, Kenzie Provencher and Cassidy Hickey scored, Ava Hudson had two assists, and the Spartans (1-1) defeated the Bulldogs (0-2) in Sanford.
Kiley McCrum converted a penalty kick and Maizie Chalmers added a second-half goal for Portland (0-2).
Jamila Mohamed made six saves for the Bulldogs. Sophie Olivo got the win for Sanford.
DEERING 3, BIDDEFORD 1: Matilda Freeman netted two goals, Sofia Nieves also scored, and the Rams (1-0) downed the visiting Tigers (0-2).
FIELD HOCKEY
FREEPORT 9, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 0: Liza Flowers recorded three goals, Briella Boudreau and Callie Bourgoin each scored twice, and the Falcons (2-0) shut out the Raiders (1-1) in Fryeburg.
Emily Groves (two assists) and Jillian Luetje also scored, and Maddie Kryzek stopped three shots for Freeport.
Brennan Slosberg made nine saves and Sophia Carone had three saves for Fryeburg.
WELLS 1, SACOPEE VALLEY 0: Freshman Kassidy Tanguay scored in the second quarter, and the Warriors (1-1) made it stand up to defeat the Hawks (0-3) at Hiram.
TRAIP ACADEMY 2, WAYNFLETE 1: Noelle French scored one goal and set up the other for the Rangers (3-0) in a win over the Flyers (1-1) in Kittery.
Riley Chase got the other goal, and Eden Varney assisted on French’s goal.
YARMOUTH 7, LAKE REGION 1: Maya Nasveschuk scored three goals, Vivienne Corriveau and Erica O’Connor each had a goal and two assists, and the Clippers (3-0) handled the Lakers (0-2) in Naples.
Celia Zinman added a goal and an assist, and Olivia Fitzgerald also scored for Yarmouth.
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER/NYA 3, GREELY 2: Lydia Trytek scored her second goal of the game in overtime as the Patriots (1-1) beat the Rangers (0-2-1) in Cumberland.
Gray-New Gloucester/NYA also got a goal from Kesley Keldes. Helen Zimmerman and Evelyn Stewart scored for Greely.
