The Maine Yankee Community Advisory Panel will meet to discuss the future of the former nuclear reactor site later this month.
The panel will host its annual meeting from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Montsweag Restaurant on Route 1 in Woolwich. The group’s focus is on the storage and ultimate removal of the spent nuclear fuel at the site.
Attendees are asked to park in the upper north side lot and use the ramp to access the second-floor function room.
The meeting will include updates by Maine Yankee and state officials on the site and national efforts to deal with spent nuclear fuel. It will include a public comment period. For more information, contact Kathleen Capstick at kcapstick@3yankees.com.
The nuclear reactor shut down in 1997, and its spent fuel is now stored in large, airtight containers on the site.
