Five players scored goals to lift Scarborough to a 5-0 win over Portland in a season opener at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland on Thursday evening.

The game was a rematch of last year’s Class A South final, also won by Scarborough.

E.J. Herrick and Khalil Ghosheh scored in the first half, and Brady Moreau,
Ben Shea and Trevor Atwood added second-half goals.

Finn Noonan finished with three saves for Portland.

GREELY 3, YORK 2: The Rangers rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit to beat the Clippers in a season opener in York.

Connor Skillin tied it for Greely with a pair of goals, and Cade Potts scored the winner with 13 minutes left.

Ronin Avery and Robbie Hanscom scored for York.

WELLS 2, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 1: Milo Terwilliger-Smith scored off an assist from Aydan Collins with 2:57 remaining as the Warriors edged the Raiders in Fryeburg.

Brayden St. Onge got the other Wells goal after a free kick by Aiden Thibodeau. Warriors goalie Josiah Leighton made 11 saves.

GORHAM 4, WESTBROOK 1: Mortiz Deppner scored twice and Will Andreasen had a goal and an assist for the Rams against the visiting Blue Blazes.

Gorham’s final goal was an own goal.

Ithiel Mulumba scored an unassisted goal for Westbrook.

SOUTH PORTLAND 2, KENNEBUNK 0: Casey Corcoran scored the first goal and set up another by Ansel Eppich as the Red Riots won a season opener at home.

Israel Ditanduka assisted on Corcoran’s goal.

GIRLS SOCCER

GORHAM 2, CHEVERUS 1: Taylor Chadburn assisted on both goals for the Rams in a season-opening win over the visiting Stags.

Adrianna Russo scored in the first half and Logan Doughty added a second-half goal.

Olivia Vigue scored for Cheverus.

GREELY 4, YORK 0: Sami Santerre put in two goals, Avery Bush added a goal and two assists, and the Rangers shut out the Wildcats in Cumberland.

Peyton Seekins also scored, while Lily Pierce was credited with two assists.

MT. ARARAT 6, MT. BLUE 1: Katherine Theriault scored one goal and assisted on two others for the Eagles in a season-opening win in Farmington.

Emma Berry, Julianna Allen, Hannah Hunt and Jaelyn Jensen also scored for Mt. Ararat.

Molly Patterson netted Mt. Blue’s goal off an assist from Jocelyn Greenleaf. Ava Davis made nine saves for the Cougars.

POLAND 4, TRAIP ACADEMY 2: Leksi Langevin’s two goals helped the Knights (1-0) defeat the Rangers (0-1) in Poland.

Davis Hill and Alaina Hamlin also scored for Poland, while Payton Rose recorded an assist.

Jacqueline Diablo netted a first-half goal and Shea Johnson scored in the second half for Traip.

Poland’s Payton Blake and Traip’s Rose Dembele each made six saves.

KENNEBUNK 4, SOUTH PORTLAND 1: Natalie Elia recorded two goals, Belle Kalil and Payton Wilson also scored, and the Rams downed the Red Riots in South Portland.

Kennebunk’s Teagan Hanson made four saves. Maizie Savage (three saves) and Amelia Burton-Fowler (four saves) shared goalkeeping duties for the Red Riots.

SCARBOROUGH 3, MARSHWOOD 0: Shay Charsky scored twice, Maggie Booth added a goal and an assist, and the Red Storm beat the Hawks in Scarborough.

Josie Duncan earned an assist on Charsky’s first goal. Vera DiSotto stopped two shots for the clean sheet.

Hazel Martin made 13 saves for Marshwood.

WESTBROOK 2, PORTLAND 0: Ava Bolden scored one goal and assisted on the other as the Blue Blazes beat the Bulldogs in a season opener in Portland.

Quinn Doolittle got her first varsity goal for Westbrook. Greta Krantz had six saves.

CAPE ELIZABETH 2, YARMOUTH 1: Noelle Mallory scored two goals and the Capers held on to beat the Clippers in Cape Elizabeth.

Kate Hetrick and Alice DeGeorge each had an assist, and Kelsie Law stopped four shots.

Yarmouth’s Tess LeBrecque scored in the second half, with an assist from Lilah Pernal.

THORNTON ACADEMY 2, BONNY EAGLE 0: Harlow O’Leary converted a penalty kick in the 59th minute and Addison DiCianna stopped two shots as the Trojans downed the Scots in Saco.

Trinnity Hall also scored.

Keona Ingram made two saves for Bonny Eagle.

LAKE REGION 4, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 2: Abbi Nadeau notched a hat trick as the Lakers won their season opener against the Seagulls in Naples.

Theresa Thayer also scored for Lake Region.

FIELD HOCKEY

GORHAM 6, MARSHWOOD 1: Sydney Quimby set up the first goal and then added two of her own as the Rams defeated the Hawks in South Berwick.

Gorham broke the game open with four goals in the second quarter, after Reece Leclerc started the scoring late in the first. The Rams converted three penalty corners.

Annie Collier contributed a goal and two assists, and Leclerc and Grace Cunningham each had a goal and an assist. Bryn Cunningham was the other goal scorer.

Isabel Rothwell scored in the third quarter for Marshwood. Hawks goalie Makayle Coy made 16 saves.

NOBLE 3, KENNEBUNK 0: Alyssa Plante tallied two goals and Mia Smith also scored, all in the fourth quarter, as the Knights defeated the Rams in Kennebunk.

Lauren Merchant stopped five shots for Noble. Kennebunk’s Faith Flynn made six saves.

YARMOUTH 1, CAPE ELIZABETH 0: Maya Nasveschuk scored from Erica O’Connor, and the Clippers beat the Capers in Cape Elizabeth.

Emma Shannon stopped four shots to earn the shutout.

FALMOUTH 4, THORNTON ACADEMY 3: Violet Westburg converted a penalty corner for the tying goal after time expired in the third quarter, then got the go-ahead goal on another corner as the Navigators survived a comeback by the visiting Golden Trojans.

Falmouth grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first quarter on goals by Jaelyn Meader and Keira Kelly. Thornton, though, fought back to take the lead, getting two goals from Cora Bolduc and a goal and an assist from Shyla McVeigh.

VOLLEYBALL

WESTBROOK 3, MASSABESIC/SACOPEE VALLEY 0: Grace Gurney recorded 15 service points and seven aces as the Blue Blazes handled the Mustangs in three sets, 25-10, 25-16 and 25-12, in Westbrook.

GREELY 3, WINDHAM 1: Maddie Croteau had 11 aces, seven kills and eight assists as the Rangers defeated the Eagles in four sets in Cumberland.

The set scores were 25-21, 25-12, 22-25 and 25-13.

Croteau also had eight digs and two blocks. Anabelle Talley chipped in with 12 kills and 11 digs, while Kylie Greco finished with six aces and 12 assists for Greely.

FALMOUTH 3, MARSHWOOD 2: The Navigators rallied from two sets down, then from a 12-1 deficit in the final set to beat the Hawks in Falmouth, 12-25, 23-25, 25-16, 25-23, 15-13.

Olive Clark fueled the comeback with 23 kills. Sophia Bennett had five kills, four aces and a block, and Embury Williams recorded two kills, two aces and three blocks.
