A Dexter father is accused of abusing his 7-month-old child, who was taken to a hospital with serious injuries last week, police said Thursday.
Kolby Drake, 23, was arrested Wednesday and faces one count each of Class B aggravated assault, Class C assault and Class D domestic violence assault, according to Maine State Police.
His Class B charge could carry up to 10 years in prison under Maine law. Class C charges carry up to five years in prison, and Class D carries less than a year.
State police said they began investigating after Dexter police received a report that an infant had been taken to a hospital with serious injuries on the evening of Aug. 7 .
Drake was booked at the Penobscot County Jail and is scheduled to make his first appearance in court this week, police said.
Police are asking anyone with information relevant to the case to call 207-973-3700, ext. 9, and ask to speak with Detective Dana Austin.
State police also encourage anyone experiencing domestic abuse in Maine to call the Statewide Domestic Violence Helpline at 866-834-HELP.
