The Portland Fire Department is currently down a fire boat.

The vessel was damaged last month while transporting a man to shore during a rescue near Jewell Island, department spokesman Sean Donaghue confirmed on Wednesday. It struck an unknown object during that rescue, damaging the propellers, and is currently undergoing repairs.

The repairs, expected to be finished within the next week, are estimated to cost $20,000 to $30,000.

The department has two other fire boats operating while the damaged one is being fixed.
