Experience Real Maine agriculture up close at the 36th Annual Maine Open Farm Day, happening rain or shine on Sunday, July 27. This statewide celebration invites you to explore working farms across Maine—where you’ll meet local farmers, see how food is grown, and experience the sights, sounds, and flavors of life on the farm.

Behind the Scenes of Maine Agriculture

Coordinated by Real Maine, a program of the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, Open Farm Day is your chance to go beyond the grocery aisle and into the fields, barns, and pastures that power Maine’s food economy. It’s a unique, family-friendly event that brings you face-to-face with the people and agriculture that are vital throughout the state.

With more than 100 farms participating, each Open Farm Day destination offers something special. Some farms will be open Saturday and Sunday—so be sure to visit RealMaine.com/OpenFarmDay to check individual schedules, see the interactive map, and plan your route.

What to Expect on the Farm

Farms across Maine will offer a wide variety of activities, including tours, hands-on demonstrations, seasonal tastings, and even pick-your-own opportunities. You might walk through vegetable rows, meet dairy goats, learn about beekeeping, or see fiber spinning in action. It’s a hands-on opportunity to learn how Maine farm products are grown and made—and to see what a day in the life of a farmer is really like.

Visitor Tips for a Great Day

Provided by Real Maine

This is a rain-or-shine event, so come prepared! Dress for the weather—think comfortable shoes, hats, bug spray, and sunscreen. Many farms have uneven terrain and outdoor walking areas, so wear what keeps you comfortable as you explore.

To make the most of your visit, bring a cooler and tote bags—many farms sell goods right on site, from fresh produce and cheese to jams, baked treats, and handcrafted items. It’s a perfect way to support Maine’s farmers while taking home something special.

Be Respectful of Working Farms

While farms are opening their gates to welcome you, they remain active businesses. Please stay on marked paths, follow signage, and be mindful of animals and equipment. Drive slowly on farm roads and leave pets at home for everyone’s safety.
