Maine State Police are helping South Portland officers investigate a death discovered in the city Wednesday afternoon.

The South Portland Police Department received a request for a wellness check at 213 Mussey St. around 2 p.m., the department said in a written statement.

First responders arrived to find a man dead inside the home and reached out to the state police for assistance from the major crimes unit, the department said. Police did not identify the man or provide details into how or when he may have died.

South Portland police said there is no danger to the public and referred additional questions to the state police.
