Maine State Police have arrested a man accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend Saturday night.
Sherri Sweet, 37, died after a domestic dispute was reported at her home at 48 Brattle St. in South Berwick, state police said.
Police arrested her boyfriend, 43-year-old Jeremiah Godfrey, at the South Berwick Police Department on Wednesday afternoon after obtaining a warrant that same day. He is being held without bail on a murder charge at York County Jail.
In a 911 call on Saturday night, police said Godfrey “described a struggle over the gun” before Sweet was shot in the head. She died one day later at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
The New Hampshire Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy Monday and determined Sweet’s death to be a homicide, state police said.
A spokesperson declined to provide further details about the investigation, including the timeline between Sweet’s death and when they requested the warrant.
