The Maine Marine Patrol and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the death of a seasonal Cushing resident whose body was discovered Friday night on the shore near Gaunt Neck Road.

The man, 83-year-old Donald McBeth, of Vero Beach, Florida, lived in Cushing seasonally, the Department of Marine Resources said in a release.

Marine Patrol was notified at around 7 p.m. Friday that the family had reported McBeth missing after he failed to show up at a gathering, according to the release. Search teams located McBeth’s body on the shore near Gaunt Neck Road at approximately 8 p.m.

McBeth was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner, DMR said. The cause of McBeth’s death is still under investigation.
