Members of the Portland Elks Lodge 188 recently held a School supply drive. The goal was to collect everyday items that teachers can use in their classroom, such as pencils, crayons, markers, tape, composition books, sticky notes, paper clips and more. In addition to the donations, the Portland Elks Lodge received a $4,000 grant from the Elks National Foundation that was used to purchase items that schools requested. The money was divided among three schools: the East End Community School, the Congin School in Westbrook, and Skillin School in South Portland.
The Portland Elks Lodge delivered more than $1,800 worth of supplies to the teachers at East End Community School School.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
