A teacher at Gray-New Gloucester Middle School has been charged with misdemeanor assault on a student, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said.
The alleged assault occurred in March but wasn’t reported until May 28, when the student’s parents notified the school resource officer, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
An investigation by the sheriff’s office found that a 12-year-old student had been assaulted at the school on March 25.
Thomas Morawiec, 48, a speech therapist at the middle school, has been charged with misdemeanor assault and summonsed to appear in Portland District Court on Aug. 14, the sheriff’s office said.
No further information was available Thursday night.
