I just read that the Portland Museum of Art wants to demolish the former Children’s Museum and Theatre of Maine to expand their museum (“Portland Museum of Art seeks city approval to tear down former Children’s Museum,” Sept. 9). That structure has been in that location for a very long time and has had many good uses. The facade is still a beautiful thing to look at.
I have just one brief comment regarding the Portland Museum of Art’s request to pave the way for demolition of a perfectly presentable and functional building: Remember Union Station. Once it was knocked down, it was gone forever.
