South Portland will conduct a facilities assessment of the Mahoney Middle School building, which is no longer in use with the opening this week of the city’s new consolidated middle school.

“There is a consideration to consolidate some city offices that are currently housed in several different buildings into the Mahoney building,” the city said in a statement.

The city will wait until the assessment is complete before recommending a use for the property. The City Council will have the final say on what the city does with the former school.
