Gass

Author Anne Gass of Gray will be the special guest of the Cumberland Historical Society Wednesday, June 28, for a talk on Florence Brooks Whitehouse, a novelist, painter, vocalist and mother of three who joined the women’s suffrage movement in 1913.

Gass, Whitehouse’s great-granddaughter, is the author of “Voting Down the Rose: Florence Brooks Whitehouse and Maine’s fight for Women Suffrage.” Her talk will cover Whitehouse’s leadership in moving suffrage forward in Maine.

The talk will be held 6:30 p.m. at the Cumberland Fire Station Community Room and is free for historical society members. A $5 donation is recommended for non-members. Gass will have books for sale at the event.
