I agree with Jim Fossel’s column of April 23 (“Supposed replacement for electoral college is flawed”). The National Popular Interstate Compact sounds to me like a poor solution for the Eectoral Ccollege.
The Electoral C,ollege is completely undemocratic and should be abolished by constitutional amendment.
We cannot honestly call ourselves a democracy when the president frequently is not elected by majority of voters. Perhaps if we truly were a democracy that represented the wishes of the people there would not be such a lopsided, angry, nonrepresentational, nonfunctioning Congress. The wishes of the majority might be reflected by our governing bodies. Why is this issue never addressed? The United States of America is not a democracy. It is a republic. A very divided, angry republic.
