A traffic stop of a rental car on I-95 by Maine State Police in Kennebunk last week led to the seizure of three loaded handguns – including one, police say, reported stolen from Saco in a vehicle burglary.
During the investigation, three loaded handguns were seized from the vehicle, two of which had rounds in the chambers, according to a news release from Maine Public Safety spokeswoman Shannon Moss.
Maine State Police said they also seized 18 grams of cocaine base, known as crack, and 2 grams of fentanyl from the vehicle.
There were two adult men and two juveniles in the vehicle.
Three of the occupants were arrested, Moss said. After contacting juvenile probation authorities, one juvenile was released to a parent. The second juvenile was taken to Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland. He appeared in court Thursday morning and was released to his parents on house arrest.
Abdulkadir Ahmed, 18, of Lewiston, was taken to York County Jail in Alfred. He was charged with felony receiving stolen property – a firearm – a Class B crime. He was released on $5,000 cash bail a day later.
The second adult was not charged. Moss said the investigation is ongoing.
