NEW HIRES
Maine Summer Camps, a nonprofit group of 140 member camps and adventure programs, has hired Lucy Norvell as executive director. She succeeds Ron Hall, who is retiring. Norvell, who begins her new role in early 2023, has three decades of experience, including various roles over the course of 15 years with the American Camp Association, New England. More recently, she served as a development and communications specialist at the Center for Grieving Children in Portland and as the coordinator of programming and communication at the Scarborough Public Library.
Alison McDonald has joined Camden-based Allen Insurance and Financial as a receptionist. McDonald is a graduate of Camden Hills Regional High School and has attended the University of Southern Maine.
Machias Savings Bank has hired Lucie Hannigan as senior vice president, cash management relationship manager, based in its Portland office. With over 25 years of experience in the Maine market, Hannigan has worked in cash management and business banking roles at People’s United Bank, Bangor Savings Bank and TDBank. Most recently, she worked as the director of business banking at Northeast Bank. She is a member of the Association for Financial Professionals and the Maine Government Finance Officers Association.
James R. Martin has joined Community Concepts Inc. as its next chief executive officer. Martin begins his role at the nonprofit community action agency on Jan. 3, and is currently chief program officer at Sweetser, a statewide behavioral health service agency. Previously, he held a variety of positions in the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, including director of the Office of Child and Family Services and director of the Office of Aging and Disability Services. Earlier in his career, Martin served as a child protection case worker in DHHS’ Lewiston office. He holds a master’s degree in social work from the University of New England.
Portland law firm Verrill has hired three associates in its Portland office: Maye Emlein, Brody Haverly-Johndro and Abby Plummer. Emlein was a summer associate with the firm, and completed a clerkship with the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine. Emlein earned a Master of Public Health degree from the Boston University School of Public Health, a law degree from the University of Maine School of Law, and a bachelor’s degree from Wheaton College. Haverly-Johndro previously served as a law clerk in the Office of General Counsel at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine and a law degree from the University of Maine School of Law. Plummer was a summer associate and previously worked with the Boston Public Schools Office of Equity. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and international affairs and earned her law degree from the Northeastern University School of Law.
PROMOTIONS
The Travis Mills Foundation has named its chief financial officer, Heather Hemphill, as executive director. In her new role, she will oversee day-to-day operations of the nonprofit and its programs for military veterans with physical injuries due to post-9/11 service. Hemphill will also lead the transition of the foundation’s veterans retreat from seasonal to year-round operation. She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Southern New Hampshire University, and previously worked as a financial analyst and project accountant with TRC Companies Inc. Hemphill joined the Travis Mills Foundation in 2019 as director of finance and administration.
The Maine Discovery Museum in Bangor has named Kate Dickerson executive director. She recently served as interim director, and is the founder and previous director of the Maine Science Festival, a museum program that relaunched its educational offerings in March. Dickerson succeeds Niles Parker, who became executive director of the Nantucket Historical Association in Massachusetts earlier this year.
