A few weeks ago, I started noticing lawn signs in Yarmouth urging a “yes” vote on the referendum that is on the town’s Nov. 8 ballot. Last week, upon closer look, I saw “For an Inclusive Town Council” also on the signs.

I was previously on the fence about my vote. My equivocation now includes whether or not to reward what I consider to be a very slick – and very disingenuous to voters – attempt to make voters think the referendum is related to diversity, equity and inclusion issues. It is not. It is about a conflict-of-interest issue.

The actual referendum on the municipal ballot asks voters to allow town employees to serve as town councilors. Town of Yarmouth voters should read the verbiage of the referendum thoroughly and only approve it if they are satisfied there are no conflicts of interest posed.
