Eric Ellsworth Wright

Eric Ellsworth Wright 1948 – 2022 DENVER, Colo. – Eric Ellsworth Wright of Denver, Colo. (formerly of Brunswick) passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 13, 2022 after a long but valiant fight with Parkinson’s disease. He was 74 years old and was surrounded by his family at his time of passing. Eric was born on June 9, 1948 in Bryn Mawr, Pa. to Walter and Aagot (nee Horn) Wright. He spent his formative years in Athens, Ohio and graduated from Athens High School. After receiving an undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University and a law degree from The Catholic University of America, Eric pursued a life-long career as a criminal prosecutor. He began his profession as an assistant State’s Attorney for Montgomery County, Md., followed by a highly successful and long-tenured position as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Maine. He married his wife, Roberta “Robbie” Lipsman in 1983 and the two quickly settled in Brunswick to start a family. Son, Joshua was born in 1986, followed by Douglas in 1987. Eric later taught as a law professor for the University of Maine school system, was a staff attorney for the Maine Bureau of Consumer Credit Protection, and was chairman of the Maine State Board of Property Tax Review. Aside from law, Eric had many keen interests in life. He was an avid lover of the game of golf and had a particular passion for golf course design and architecture. Family vacations typically involved seeking out well-known golf courses to play or visit in the area of travel, often to the chagrin of Robbie but enthusiastically supported by Josh and Doug. He was an outdoor enthusiast who loved to hike and spend time at his family’s summer farmhouse, Windy Ledge, in the foothills of western Maine. He was an intellect with a voracious reading habit and was a folk music connoisseur. He was known for his dry, witting sense of humor and his devotion to the Baltimore Orioles baseball team, regardless of their success or lack thereof. Most importantly, he was a beloved husband and father who demonstrated unwavering support and protection for his family at all times. He could easily be recognized in the dugout of baseball games (as a coach for Josh and Doug), or alongside Robbie in the stands of hockey games. Eric is survived by his wife, Robbie Lipsman; sister, Caroline (the late Andy) Kuhl; sons Joshua Wright (Kaitlin Kunkler) and Douglas Wright; granddaughter Harper Flinn; and many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Aagot. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Brunswick on Saturday Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. with a lunch reception to follow at the Brunswick Golf Club. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be made to the Parkinson Association of the Rockies (www.parkinsonrockies.org), the Appalachian Mountain Club (www.outdoors.com), or the charitable foundation of your choosing.
