A 9-year-old girl was killed Thursday afternoon when a tree fell on her car in Standish, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
Capt. Donald Foss told News Center Maine that severe weather Thursday afternoon appears to have caused the tree to fall on the car in which the girl was a passenger.
The incident took place near the Sebago Lake Family Campground in Standish. Foss did not provide any other details.
Thunderstorms swept through western and northern Maine Thursday evening. Police shut down Route 114 at the Standish and Sebago town line at about 6 p.m. because of storm damage.
Nearly 1,000 Central Maine Power Company customers were without power in Sebago and Standish at 10 p.m.
