TOMS RIVER, N.J. — An 18-year-old Union man died when a large hole he and his sister were digging in the sand at a New Jersey beach collapsed, police said.

Levi Caverly’s sister was also trapped but was rescued and treated at the scene, the Toms River Police Department said in a statement.
It said police and emergency medical personnel were sent to the beach entrance on the barrier island shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Mayor Maurice “Mo” Hill told NBC New York that the pair were using frisbees to dig a 10-foot hole in the sand when it collapsed on both of them.
The family was visiting from Maine.
