A headline on Page A1 Feb. 5 read, “GOP’s national committee calls attack ‘legitimate political discourse.’ ” Are you kidding me? The people who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, were neither protesters, nor rioters; they were not “normal tourists.” They were traitors! They were trying to overthrow the government of the United States and stop the peaceful transfer of power.
The thought of a Republican committee voting to censure anyone who is investigating what happened that day makes me sick. Republicans, Democrats and the outgoing vice president himself were running for their lives. People died and property was destroyed as a result of the traitors’ actions, and that committee calls it “legitimate political discourse.”
I do not understand how anyone can follow Donald Trump. Unless the Republican Party stands up against what Trump and white supremacists are doing, Republicans will be recorded in history as the party who destroyed the United States of America.
I was a Republican for almost 50 years, until Trump started his pandemic lies.
