Val Halla Golf and Recreation, at 60 Val Halla Road in Cumberland, is asking visitors to avoid walking, skiing and snowshoeing in roped-off areas.
Every fall, Val Halla staff prepare the course for the winter to make sure the grass survives the cold months. Foot traffic in certain areas creates a layer of ice that can suffocate the grass and make removing snow difficult for staff, according to a press release. The ice can also delay opening the course in the spring.
