A collision between an SUV and motorcycle Sunday morning forced police to divert Route 1 traffic in Nobleboro for nearly an hour.
The motorcycle operator, Ernest Oliver, 62, of Nobleboro, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Damariscotta, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Police said that Oliver’s 2012 Honda motorcycle collided with a 2017 Toyota Highlander driven by Caitlin Ernst, 28, of Nobleboro at the intersection of Route 1 and Back Meadows Road.
The sheriff’s office said it appears that Oliver failed to yield as he entered Route 1. Ernst, who was heading south on Route 1, braked but was unable to avoid hitting his motorcycle. Oliver, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle and landed in the road. Ernst and her young child were not injured in the crash, which was reported around 10:35 a.m.
