A former Unity College employee will spend two years in prison for embezzling nearly $517,000 from the school.
Beth Bing, 49, of Waterville, was sentenced to two years in prison Tuesday in federal court in Bangor. From September 2015 through October 2019, Bing made “personal purchases and payments” without the knowledge or approval of Unity College officials, according to court documents.
U.S. District Judge John A. Woodcock Jr. presided over the case, in which Bing pleaded guilty to a charge of wire fraud in October 2020.
Court records show Bing, formerly Beth Stafford, used her Unity College credit card for a wedding dress, gambling at casinos, vacations and more. Bing worked in the school’s finance department.
