BATH — The Long Reach Swim Club from the Bath Area Family YMCA will travel to the University of Maine at Orono to compete in the 56th annual Maine YMCA State Swimming Championships.
LRSC is the defending state champions and expects to challenge for a title again in this year’s meet. Last year the Bangor YMCA gave the squad its biggest challenge in decades, coming up just 100 points short on the two-and-a-half day meet and looks to challenge again. The Kennebec Valley YMCA, which bested LRSC in a dual meet earlier this season, will also compete for the title.
Along with team combined titles, there are 10 age group titles up for grabs, as well as combined boy and girl age groups, with racing beginning Friday afternoon and concluding Sunday.
LRSC is coached by Jay Morissette, Brian “Sponge” Savage, Mallory Plummer and James Wells.
“I am expecting a close swim meet. I think our swimmers have a lot of potential for improvement and success. It should be a great meet,” Morissette said.
