U.S. Rep. Jared Golden of Maine is among 15 Democrats who voted against returning Nancy Pelosi to the House speaker’s office.
A spokesman said Golden kept his campaign vow that he would not support Pelosi for speaker. Instead he voted for Rep. Cheri Bustos of Illinois for the leadership position.
Golden was in the news daily during an election battle he won, thanks to ranked-choice voting. Now he’s part of a freshman class that’s making history for a record number of women and becoming the most racially and ethnically diverse.
Republicans gained seats in the Senate; Democrats took control of the House.
The other members of Maine’s delegation also were sworn in: Republican Sen. Susan Collins, independent Sen. Angus King and Democratic U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree.
