I have a vision I’d like to share. In short, it reads as a bumper sticker: “Senator Sherrod Brown for President 2020.”
Over two years ago I visited my daughter in Columbus, Ohio. I aimlessly turned on the TV and found Sen. Brown talking to a small group, the Rotary or a business group perhaps. I was struck by this fellow. He seemed not only easy and at home, but what he said about the economy, about the dignity of workers, about health care, about our economic policy that favored the fat cats. It wasn’t a diatribe. It was simply stated, authentic and appreciated by his audience.
I’ve followed him since. I gave a few bucks to his campaign to win his third term. He won in the face of a Republican sweep of Ohio: a progressive in a state awash in red.
I Googled his “Victory Speech.” I invite you to do the same. And then tell me—if you are mortified every day by the Republican Party—is this not a guy we might trust? And big time: is he not most electable?
A buddy and I have just produced 10 bumper stickers: Sen. Brown/President 2020. By the way they’re not cheap. If you think we should produce more, let me know, email me at: rdvseymour@gmail.com.
