BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick/Mt. Ararat high school girls volleyball team rallied from a two-set deficit for a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Wells on Tuesday.

The Dragons won the match with set scores of 22-25, 15-25, 25-23, 25-15, 16-14, giving Brunswick/Mt. Ararat a 4-7 record and a third victory in its past four matches. The Dragons host Gardiner on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Brunswick/Mt. Ararat was lead by Lauren Whitlock with 22 assists and 11 aces, Sabrina Cooper with eight kills, Naomi Martin with three aces, five kills and 10 digs, and Kathleen Trapp with 13 kills and nine digs.

Bowdoin College

CASTINE — The Bowdoin women’s soccer team won a cold and rain soaked 5-0 match against Maine Maritime Academy on Tuesday evening.

The Polar Bears climbed to 5-3-1 with another non-conference victory. The Mariners dropped to 7-2.

Julia Patterson recorded the game’s first goal, putting a header in the net off a corner kick from Tessa Huckaby. With under four minutes remaining in the half, Sydney Reaper controlled the ball along the left sideline and centered a pass to Julia Adelmann in the box. Adelmann settled the ball and took a quick shot to the right post.

The Polar Bears scored 1:55 into the second frame. Lizzie Sands sent a long feed to Morgen Gallagher, who sped down the left side. Gallagher drew Emily Conway to the edge of the goalie box and slotted a shot to the far post.

In the 55th minute, a long ball was played down the right side, with Alia Haskins streaking down the sideline for a breakaway. Haskins closed in on the net and passed to Adelmann on the far post for an open goal. Penny Rocchio capped the game’s scoring. Rocchio carried into space on the right side and crossed a shot off the hands of a diving Conway.

Bowdoin’s Sabrina Albanese earned the win with a pair of stops in net. Conway made eight saves in the loss for the Mariners. The Polar Bears held a 17-3 shot advantage.

Bowdoin earned 11 corner kicks while surrendering none.

Bowdoin hosts Trinity on Saturday at noon.

In women’s volleyball at Morrell Gymnasium in Brunswick, the Polar Bears rolled to a 3-0 win over Salem State University.

With the 25-13, 25-7, 25-7 win, the Polar Bears improved to 14-1, while the Vikings fell to 10-6.

The match was competitive in the first set as the Vikings came out firing and held a 10-9 midway through the frame. Bowdoin took complete command from there, scoring seven straight points that sparked a 16-3 surge to end the set and give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Bowdoin opened on an 11-4 run en route to a second-set victory and also sprinted to an early lead — 8-0 — in the third to complete the sweep. Bowdoin won 66 of the final 83 points in the match.

Caroline Flaharty led the way for Bowdoin with 13 kills and just one error in 17 attacks. As a team, Bowdoin had 41 kills and six errors and hit a .547 rate. Kate Kiser had 16 assists before giving way to Lexie Freund, who posted 17. Flaharty led Bowdoin with 11 digs, while Lisa Sheldon had ten. Cori Gray had five blocks.

Bowdoin hosts Trinity on Friday night at 7 p.m. as the Polar Bears return to NESCAC play. Friday evening will also be Bowdoin’s “Dig Pink” game in support of the Side-Out Foundation. Boys soccer

YORK — York tallied a pair of first-half goals en route to a Western Maine Conference win over Freeport on a rain-soaked field.

The Falcons fell to 7-2-2 with the loss and host Yarmouth on Friday at 6 p.m.

Freeport’s lone goal came in the final 30 seconds of regulation as Shea Wagner tapped in a shot. Wagner had a goal waved off late in the first half when he was called for a foul after colliding with the Wildcat netminder.

“York is a very direct team, playing on a small field, and the game featured transitions both ways,” said Freeport coach Bob Strong. “York played a great game.”

Atticus Patrick turned away seven shots in the Freeport cage.

Girls soccer

RICHMOND — Abby Johnson and Marie Wockenfuss each scored three goals as Richmond cruised to a 15-0 win in Class D South action.

Bry Shea added two goals, with Caitlin Kendrick picking up two goals and dishing out four assists. Rylie Irish, Leah Wescott, Brie Vintinner, Lindsie Irish and Laura Brown each chipped in a goal.

Kennedy Chandler had two saves for the shutout.

The Bobcats are 7-1-1 heading into Thursday’s home contest with Rangeley (4 p.m.).
