WARREN — A 37-year-old Warren man made his initial court appearance Wednesday after being arrested Monday on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman with a cellphone.
Jerome J. Cushing was charged with Class C gross sexual assault, Class C domestic violence assault, and Class D domestic violence assault.
An affidavit filed by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office in Knox County court, said that the woman reported Monday that the man had assaulted her on multiple occasions over the year.
The victim reported that a month earlier, the man had entered her bedroom and took her cellphone and sexually assaulted her with it because she had not answered his calls.
Cushing denied the allegations to sheriff’s officers and claimed the woman suffered her most recent injury when she was under his car that was being repaired.
Judge Susan Sparaco agreed to the recommendation reached between the defense and district attorney’s office and set bail at $1,500 cash. He is prohibited from having contact with the woman and another man.
He is next scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 16.
