AMHERST, Mass. — Lexi Curt capped a four-run rally in the seventh inning with a three-run homer, giving Williams a 5-3 win over Bowdoin in the New England Small College Athletic Conference softball championship game Sunday.

The Polar Bears (31-12) took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Allison Rutz walked and scored on a triple by Natalie Edwards, and Maddie Rouhana followed with a two-run homer.

Brenda Martinez answered for Williams (35-6) with a leadoff home run in the fifth.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

MIDDLEBURY 13, BOWDOIN 10: Emily Barnard fired home a free-position shot to break a 9-9 tie with 10 minutes left, and the top-seeded Panthers (16-2) won the New England Small College Athletic Conference championship with a victory over the Polar Bears (13-5) in Middlebury, Vermont.

Middlebury is NESCAC’s automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division III tournament. Bowdoin received an at-large bid Sunday night and will host a second-round game Sunday against Stevens (14-5).

Hannah Hirschfeld led Bowdoin with four goals and an assist. Eliza Denious added two goals and an assist.

BASEBALL

MAINE 6, BINGHAMTON 1: The Black Bears (14-29, 8-10 America East) got home runs from Jonathan Bennett and Christopher Bec in a win over the Bearcats (14-27-1, 8-13) in Orono.

Bennett’s two-run homer capped a four-run fourth that made it 5-0. Bec homered in the eighth.

Cody Laweryson (1-3), Connor Johnson and Jonah Normandeau combined on a five-hitter.

BOWDOIN 8, SOUTHERN MAINE 3: Connor Lee recorded two doubles among his three hits and drove in three runs while leading the Polar Bears (16-17) past the Huskies (27-11) in Brunswick.

Devin Warren had three hits and scored a run for USM.
