A Brownfield man was arrested early Sunday morning after he allegedly assaulted a woman in Fryeburg.
Police Chief Joshua Potvin said in a statement that officers drew their Tasers but did not need to use them on the domestic violence suspect, Craig J. Robinson, 28.
According to Potvin, Fryeburg police received a 911 call around 2 a.m. Sunday from a resident of Haley Town Road, who told police he heard screaming and witnessed a female being assaulted in his driveway. Potvin said the victim was attacked inside a motor vehicle as well as outside the car as she tried to seek help from the homeowner, who called police.
When officers arrived, they located Robinson hiding in a nearby wooded area. He was transported to the Oxford County Jail and charged with aggravated domestic violence assault, a Class B felony. Robinson was being held Sunday night without bail.
The victim, a 31-year-old woman from Hiram, was treated at the scene by Fryeburg rescue workers for facial, arm and leg injuries.
“Domestic violence investigations are stressful and dangerous for responding officers. Emotionally charged events such as domestic violence situations poses additional risks to all those involved,” Potvin said. “My officers follow a strict no excuse policy when it comes to domestic violence. “
