Western Avenue in Auburn has reopened after a car hit a natural gas line and forced police to evacuate residents on Western and Barkley avenues Tuesday morning.

WCSH-TV reported that police and fire crews evacuated people in 12 neighborhood homes after the accident caused a gas leak around 9 a.m. The accident took place near a home at 19 Western Ave. Western Avenue had to be shut down.

A message posted on the Auburn Police Department’s Facebook page said the road reopened around noon. There were no reported injuries.
