Police are looking for a man who they say is behind robberies in South Portland and Scarborough.
South Portland police said the man robbed the Shaw’s supermarket in the Mill Creek area of South Portland on Saturday. A white male entered the store at 180 Waterman Drive at 8:06 a.m., told the clerk he had a gun, which he did not display, and demanded cash. He left through the front door with an undetermined amount of cash.
Police said there was a similar robbery at the Wal-Mart store at 500 Gallery Boulevard in Scarborough at 11 p.m. Friday. The suspect, who matched the description of the Shaw’s robber, also demanded money by telling the clerk he had a weapon, which he did not display.
He is described as in his 40s, 5 feet 6-8 inches tall, wearing jeans, a brown waist-length jacket and camouflage colored cap with a brim that covered his ears. His fingernails were covered with polish or multicolored stickers. He was unshaven.
Anyone with information is asked to call South Portland police Detective Scott Corbett at 874-8575 or Scarborough Police Detective Garett Strout at 883-6361.
