BRUNSWICK — Bowdoin College had four players score in double figures Tuesday night in an 86-79 victory against the University of Southern Maine in a nonconference men’s basketball game at Morrell Gymnasium.
Bowdoin (3-2) scored the first eight points and led 42-33 at halftime.
USM opened the second half with a 30-19 run, taking its first lead at 63-61 on a Zach Leal layup with 9:57 to play.
The Polar Bears regained the lead for good on a pair of Tim Ahn free throws, and 3-pointers from Jack Simonds and Liam Farley.
ST. JOSEPH’S 61, ANNA MARIA 54: The Monks (2-3, 1-0 Great Northeast Athletic) closed on an 8-1 run to beat the Amcats (0-6, 0-1) at Paxton, Massachusetts.
St. Joseph’s led 25-24 at halftime before 10 lead changes and four ties in the second half.
(2) VILLANOVA 82, PENNSYLVANIA 57: Kris Jenkins hit six 3s and scored 22 points, and Josh Hart had 12 points and nine rebounds to lead Villanova (7-0) past Penn (2-3) at Philadelphia.
(4) KANSAS 91, LONG BEACH STATE 61: Lagerald Vick scored a career-high 23 points on near-perfect shooting, Svi Mykhailiuk had 14 and Kansas (6-1) rolled over Long Beach State (1-8) at Lawrence, Kansas.
(7) XAVIER 85, NORTH DAKOTA STATE 55: Trevon Bluiett scored 15 of his 23 points during a dominant first half, and the Musketeers (7-0) defeated North Dakota State (5-3) at Cincinnati.
(10) CREIGHTON 93, BUFFALO 72: Marcus Foster scored 22 points, Justin Patton had season highs of 21 points and 10 rebounds and Creighton (7-0) pulled away in the second half to beat Buffalo (4-3) at Omaha, Nebraska.
(17) WISCONSIN 77, (22) SYRACUSE 60: Ethan Happ had 24 points and 13 rebounds, zone-busting guard Bronson Koenig scored 20 points and Wisconsin (6-2) beat Syracuse (4-2) at Madison, Wisconsin.
VALPARAISO 65, (21) RHODE ISLAND 62: Alec Peters scored 27 points to help Valparaiso (7-1) knock off visiting Rhode Island (5-2).
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
UMASS-BOSTON 55, COLBY 49: Reserve Alecia Quinones had a game-high 20 points, including her team’s first seven points in the third quarter, as the Breakers (3-2) edged the Mules (3-2) at Waterville.
(2) CONNECTICUT 80, CHATTANOOGA 43: Napheesa Collier scored 23 points at Hartford, Connecticut, to lead UConn (5-0) to its 80th consecutive win, a rout of Chattanooga (3-6).
WOMEN’S HOCKEY
MAINE 3, DARTMOUTH 2: Tereza Vanisova had a pair of first-period goals as the Black Bears (4-12-1) beat the Big Green (2-6) at Orono.
Vanisova opened the scoring at 2:26 before Kennedy Ottenbreit answered just 4:56 later.
Vanisova’s second goal of the period came with 1:21 left as the Black Bears took a 2-1 lead.
Lydia Murray extended Maine’s lead with a short-handed goal at 4:35 of the second period, Emma Korbs cut the deficit to 3-2 with 6:57 to play in the second period.
