A South Portland man was arrested Tuesday after a brief car chase through Cape Elizabeth.

A Cape police officer attempted to stop an orange hatchback about 5:50 p.m. Monday, but the driver sped off, according to Cape Elizabeth police.

After a brief chase, the officer broke off pursuit for safety concerns. Police posted an image of the man and his vehicle on the Cape Elizabeth Facebook page, and after receiving an anonymous tip, officers arrested Richard Byrnes, 44, of South Portland, on Tuesday.

Byrnes was charged with operating a vehicle after his license was revoked, refusing to submit to arrest, attempting to elude an officer, illegal attachment of plates, driving to endanger and reckless conduct.
