The Maine Warden Service is resuming the search for a 19-year-old man from Hollis Center who is presumed dead after falling off a pontoon boat Wednesday on Long Lake.
The man, whose identity has not yet been released, was riding on the front of the boat when he fell overboard and went under it just before noon. Thursday’s search will include divers and a Warden Service aircraft.
Cpl. John MacDonald, spokesman for the Maine Warden Service, said the man was a passenger in a pontoon boat that his family and a family from Texas had rented. Passengers included three adults, two teenagers and two toddlers.
Passengers said the boat struck the man after he fell overboard. He floated to the surface briefly before sinking. He was not wearing a life jacket.
Divers from the Maine Warden Service and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office attempted to recover the man’s body in about 40 feet of water, but were unsuccessful. The search was suspended at sunset Wednesday.
The location of the accident is close to the Bridgton and Naples town line.
