One man was arrested and another taken to the hospital with a stab wound to the chest after a fight involving several people outside an Old Orchard Beach resort and bar over the weekend.
Old Orchard Beach police and firefighters were called to The Brunswick at 39 W. Grand Ave. on Saturday for a reported fight involving between six and 10 people on the roadway outside the beachfront venue, Deputy Police Chief Timothy DeLuca said in a news release on Monday.
When they arrived, emergency personnel found a 23-year-old Saco man with a stab wound to the chest. That man, whom police did not identify, was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland to be treated for what was described as a non-life threatening injury.
The suspect in the stabbing, 22-year-old Tyler Young of South Portland, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, a Class B felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
“At this time the exact cause of the incident is unknown; however, alcohol is believed to have been a factor. The involved parties do not appear to have previously known one another,” DeLuca said in the statement.
The fight is still under investigation, and police said further charges may be pending.
Young was taken to the York County Jail in Alfred after his arrest and ordered held on $10,000 cash. He was scheduled to appear in Springvale District Court by video link from the jail on Monday afternoon to face the charge.
