MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — Donna “Gail” Roberts, 82, faithful servant to her Lord, formerly of Phippsburg, ME, passed away peacefully at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston Feb 8, 2016.

Former Phippsburg selectman and town assessor, Gail spearheaded the creation of Phippsburg’s first hot lunch program.

Loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was a familiar face in Phippsburg for almost 60 years, as she delighted friends and strangers alike with her warm smile and distinctive laugh. She freely and lovingly shared her deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ – a faith that sustained her through many difficult times.

In the 1970s, she helped begin the fight for Phippsburg School’s first hot lunch program, organizing many pancake breakfasts and bake sales to raise start-up costs. Subsequently, she ran for town selectman and served two, four-year terms on the board. Following her service in public office, she became an assessor for the town and worked as town clerk.

Over the years and up until she moved to Marlborough, MA in 2011, Gail had been an active church member, most recently at Small Point Baptist Church. She loved to sing in the choir and would often grace the congregation with heartfelt solos that featured her pure, soprano voice. Many Phippsburg residents fondly remember her singing “O Holy Night” at Christmastime, and said it wasn’t Christmas until they heard Gail Roberts sing.

Though she was struck and almost killed by a drunk driver while in her early twenties, Mrs. Roberts never allowed the severe and permanent leg injury to hamper her in any way. Instead, with grace and humor, she simply carried on with life, never becoming the victim. When in the last months of her life, complications from her injury caused her great pain and limited her mobility, she continued to think of others and minimize her own discomfort.

She is survived by her loving husband Truman, of almost 64 years, in Marlborough, MA; four Children, Ken Roberts and his wife Karen in Marlborough, MA; Judi Alsip and husband Dan in Cincinnati, OH; Kevin Roberts and his wife Peggy of Portland, ME; and Chris Roberts and spouse Brent of Portland, ME; plus twelve grandchildren; and 21 greatgreat grandchildren; her brother Paul Mich of Atlanta, Georgia; her sister Karen and husband Robert Amirault of Prince George, Virginia; and their children.

In prayer and at peace before surgery, Gail committed the outcome to God’s will, with a hope of recovery in less pain and increased movement, or free of pain and in the presence of her Savior.

A celebration of Life service will be held at Small point Baptist Church, 1754 Main Road, Phippsburg, Maine 04562, this Saturday Feb, 13 at 12 noon. A reception will follow.

Memorial donations may be made in the name of Gail Roberts to the Small Point Baptist Church.
