Nobody was seriously hurt when a 2009 Honda Accord sedan and a 2016 Freightliner tractor trailer collided on the Maine Turnpike northbound in Falmouth on Tuesday, but the sedan got wedged under the empty trailer.

A witness said the truck veered to the left, which led the driver of the Honda to go into the center median, said state police Sgt. James Urquhart. The driver, Ronald Strout, 36, of Buxton, then over-corrected and shot back into the road, going partly under the truck’s rear tandem. He was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland with minor injuries.

The tanker truck, owned by Hartt Transportation Systems, is hired to haul water for Poland Spring but was empty, Urquhart said. The truck driver, Robert Whitmore, 50, of Durham, was not hurt.

The highway was shut down for about 20 minutes while one heavy-duty tow truck lifted the back end of the trailer so another could pull the car out from under it, Urquhart said.
