Police say the death over the weekend of a Bates College student does not appear suspicious.
James Jhun, a senior, was found unresponsive in his dorm room on the Lewiston campus on Sunday and was taken to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities said at the time he was suffering from an unknown medical condition.
An autopsy was completed by the state medical examiner’s office but a final determination on the cause of death is pending further study.
The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency was assisting in the investigation but no illegal drugs were found at the scene, Lt. Mark Cornelio of the Lewiston police the Criminal Investigations Division said Tuesday.
“Right now we’re not classifying it as a suspicious death. We’re just trying to make sure all our bases are covered,” he said.
Bates College spokesman Kent Fischer said he had no new information on the death. He did not know about any medical condition that Jhun had and would not be authorized to discuss his health issues because of privacy restrictions.
Jhun, who was a dual citizen of the United States and South Korea, was due to graduate from Bates in May with an undergraduate degree in environmental health studies and a minor in music, according to his resume posted on LinkedIn.
Jhun’s hometown was Lincoln, Massachusetts, and he graduated from Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School in the class of 2012, according to his Facebook profile.
