South Portland, Windham, Westbrook and Thornton Academy had the late-day meet at USM on Saturday, Dec. 12, with TA winning on the boys’ side and Westbrook on the girls’.
“I feel great with how we started,” said Westbrook head coach Tim Even, referring to his girls’ efforts on the day. “I thought we started strong in the field especially, which has been one of our weaker areas in the past. Nyagoa Bayak, Kiersten Hilton, Reilley Joyce, Kelly Dyer and Kelsey Cavanaugh started especially well for us.”
“Courtney Arsenault was an animal for us in the sprints department,” Even said, “and really showed she’s ready to be an elite-level sprinter. Freshman Hope Higgins showed off her versatility and talent in the field and on the track.”
“It’s nice to win a competitive meet,” Even said. “It will be good to build off that, moving forward.”
Even was likewise proud of his boys. “Our distance crew was excellent,” he said, “as were our hurdles; we could make some noise as the season rolls on.”
