Steven Berry has been declared the winner of a Westbrook School Committee race after coming out with an eight-vote lead after a recount on Saturday.

Saturday’s official total after the recount boosted Berry’s lead over incumbent Ward 1 school board member Alex Stone by a vote, from 277-270 to 278-270, according to the results released by City Clerk Angela Holmes.

Berry, 53, is a longtime parent-teacher organization member and political newcomer.

Stone, 42, a recruiter, has served on the School Committee for the past eight years.
