WINDHAM — Goalie Kyra Schwartzman had a stong game and ninth-seeded Kennebunk scored two quick goals late in the first half Tuesday night to shock top-ranked Windham, the two-time defending state champion, 2-0 in a Class A South girls’ soccer quarterfinal.

Schwartzman stopped a penalty kick in the first half and handled three breakaways by Ciera Berthiaume.

The Rams (6-7-3) were also aided by backs Gabby Harrison, Abby Lennon, Kendall Dolan and Elizabeth Cain, who used a flat-back-four formation to contain a offense that scored 50 goals in 14 regular season games for Windham (13-2).

Leah Dumas put in a shot inside the near post in the 37th minute and Hallie Schwartzman’s direct kick caught Windham out of formation about 45 seconds later.

YORK 2, LAKE REGION 0: The second-seeded Wildcats (9-3-3) scored in each half to beat the 10th-ranked Lakers (8-8) in a Class B South quarterfinal at York.

Shannon Todd headed in a corner kick from Payton Humphrey in the 19th minute, and Maddie Amidon made it 2-0 after 10 minutes of the second half when her hard shot from 20 yards bounded off the crossbar, then off goalie Chandler True’s back.

Kelsey Cole made three saves for the Wildcats. True finished with 15.

CAMDEN HILLS 7, MT. BLUE 0: Eliza Roy scored twice and assisted on Bryn Anderson’s goal, and Charlotte Messer added two goals as the top-seeded Windjammers (14-0-1) downed ninth-ranked Mt. Blue (8-7-1) in a Class B North quarterfinal at Rockport.

Emma Gutheinz added a goal and also assisted on a goal by Emily Blackwell.

SACOPEE VALLEY 3, TRAIP ACADEMY 0: Mckenzie Murphy had a goal and an assist as the top-ranked Hawks (14-0-1) downed ninth-seeded Traip Academy (9-6-1) in a Class C South quarterfinal at South Hiram.

Murphy opened the scoring after 15 minutes, lofting a ball from the 18 over the outstretched fingers of Rangers goalie Lynne Moore. Shortly before the half, Murphy sent a through ball up the middle to Courtney Ryan for a shot to the back post. Jade Jordan added a goal on a direct kick from outside the 18 with 19:13 left.

GREELY 7, LINCOLN ACADEMY 0: Isabelle Hutnak scored three goals in the first half and the top-seeded Rangers (13-2) went on to defeat the ninth-ranked Eagles (10-6) in a Class B South quarterfinal at Cumberland.

Anna DeWolf, Elena Kropp, Kelsey Currier and Lillian Black also scored for the Rangers.

WAYNFLETE 5, ST. DOMINIC 0: Lydia Giguere stole a clearing pass and scored on a 30-yard shot – the only first-half goal for the sixth-seeded Flyers (12-4) against the third-ranked Saints (11-3-1) in a Class C South quarterfinal at Auburn.

Giguere added a goal early in the second half before Ava Farrar blew the game open with three goals.

BOYS’ SOCCER

BANGOR 1, BRUNSWICK 0: Garth Berenyi’s goal 12 minutes into the game was the difference as the fourth-ranked Rams (11-3-2) slipped past fifth-seeded Brunswick (10-4-1) at Bangor to reach the Class A North semifinals.

Stanley Clarke had six saves for Bangor, and Josh Dorr seven for the Dragons.

SCARBOROUGH 2, WESTBROOK 0: Garrett King lined a free kick from 24 yards into the upper left corner, giving the top-ranked Red Storm (13-0-2) a 1-0 lead over ninth-seeded Westbrook (6-8-2) after 22 minutes of their Class A South quarterfinal at Scarborough.

Scarborough made it 2-0 at 32:40 following another free kick. Cam Thibault gained possession after Josh Morrissey’s kick ricocheted in the box and passed to Matt Blaisdell at the far post for a one-timer.

Cam Nigro had three saves for Scarborough. D.J. Henrickson made 11 for the Blue Blazes.

WAYNFLETE 1, CARRABEC 0: Jack Weston scored twice as the second-seeded Flyers (12-2-1) were forced to penalty kicks by seventh-ranked Carrabec (9-6-1) in a Class C South quarterfinal at Portland.

Weston’s second successful kick gave Waynflete the win on its 11th kick. Christian Brooks, Cooper Chap, Ilyas Abdi and Christian Kabongo also converted for the Flyers.

Trent Richardson of the Cobras made 12 saves, then three in penalty kicks. Milo Belleau had four saves, plus five on penalty kicks.

FIELD HOCKEY

SKOWHEGAN 2, MESSALONSKEE 1: Freshman Lizzy York’s goal with 14.4 seconds left in overtime lifted second-seeded Skowhegan (15-2) over over top-ranked Messalonskee (16-1) at Waterville.

Skowhegan won its 15th straight regional title and will face Thornton Academy in the state final Saturday at Orono.
