The Nova Star, a ferry between Portland and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, carried 20,510 passengers in August, along with 6,769 automobiles and 106 commercial trucks, according to data the ferry operator provided to Portland City Hall.
The city collects the data to determine the fees that the operator, Nova Star Cruises Ltd., must pay the city for using the Ocean Gateway terminal and for city services, such as security.
Based on the data, the city billed the company nearly $74,000 for August.
According to the data, the ferry did not serve any motor coaches last month. The company has not attracted many charter tours because the Nova Scotia government awarded it the contract for the service last November, after the tour companies had already set their schedule for the 2014 season.
