SACO — Second-seeded Scarborough scored the first three goals of the game Tuesday night and went on to a 4-2 victory against seventh-ranked Portland/Deering in a Western Class A schoolboy hockey quarterfinal at the MHG Arena.

Scarborough will take on sixth-seeded Thornton Academy in the semifinals Saturday.

The Red Storm (13-5-1) held on after taking a 3-0 lead with 49 seconds left in the second period.

Scarborough opened the scoring 4:45 into the game on a goal by Jake Gross. Ian Morris added a short-handed goal just over one minute later.

Mike Fuller scored the first goal for Portland/Deering (6-12-1) on a slap shot from the left circle to make it 3-1 with 9:56 remaining, then cut the deficit to 3-2 on a goal by Ryan Ruhlin.

Scarborough put the game out of reach when Cam Brochu made it 4-2 with 1:02 left.

FALMOUTH 10, SOUTH PORTLAND 0: Defenseman Jake Grade recorded a hat trick as the top-seeded Yachtsmen (14-5) cruised past the eighth-seeded Red Riots (12-8) in a Western Class A quarterfinal at Falmouth.

Henry Norris added a pair of goals, and Andre Clement, Isac Nordstrom, Brandon Peters, Brandon Boehm and Tyler Jordan each had a goal and an assist.

Falmouth, the defending state champion, will face fourth-seeded Noble/Wells in the semifinals Saturday at Lewiston.

 

CAMDEN HILLS 8, MARANACOOK/WINTHROP 3: Simon Lydon had three goals, and Jack Orne added two goals and four assists as the second-seeded Windjammers (14-4-1) handled seventh-ranked Maranacook/Winthrop (7-12) in a Western Class B quarterfinal at Rockport.

The Windjammers led 3-0 after one period as Orne set up Kiernan Lydon at 4:14, converted a power play with 3:18 left and assisted Simon Lydon on his first goal 28 seconds later.

Orne added a short-handed goal in the second.
