A grand opening for Casco Bay Fibers, a yarn and fabric business at 15 Main St., is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 1 at 10 a.m.
There will be tours of this unusual store, located at the former Beadin’ Path, along with door prizes and goody bags. Owner Karen Minott will celebrate the grand opening throughout the weekend.
Minott said her new store marks the culmination of a long association with the craft.
“For many years I’ve dreamed of owning my own yarn and fabric business,” Minott said on her website. “Casco Bay Fibers is the realization of that dream. I learned to knit when I was 8 years old thanks to my mom. Many years later, I learned to sew and discovered another passion, eventually becoming skilled at both quilting and apparel making.”
Minott described the excitement of a newfound interest, metalsmithing.
“It’s really exciting to create a one-of-a-kind outfit, like a handmade summer dress, cute knit shrug and matching jewelry,” she said.
Minott said she looks forward to “putting to use the experience I gained from the many years of crafting and working in the industry. Now I have the opportunity to teach and serve other area hobbyists. Whether it’s picking out a fabric, yarn or pattern, or celebrating the completion of a challenging project, I find that working with my customers makes me happy.”
